Therabody introduced its most advanced Theragun yet—the Theragun Pro Plus massage gun —in mid-2024. Dubbed the 6-in-1 Theragun Pro Plus, this new release combines deep-tissue percussion massager with heat, cold therapy, vibration, red light therapy, and breathwork in addition to percussion therapy.
Whether you’re comparing the Theragun Pro vs Pro Plus or wondering what’s changed since the Theragun Pro 5th Gen, this Theragun Pro Plus review will help you decide if it’s worth the hype—and the price.
Key Takeaways:
The Theragun Pro Plus is a new design with significant improvements. The one that surprised us the most was how quiet it is now compared to the previous Theragun Pro 5th Generation. Additionally, the sound it produces is no longer harsh.
The Theragun Pro 6th generation is now a heated Theragun, thanks to a new attachment. But it doesn’t stop there; it comes with a special attachment for vibrational therapy!
The aesthetics have improved while still maintaining a 16mm amplitude, making it the most powerful massage gun in the family for intense and the best deep tissue massage.
The addition of Theragun Red LED therapy and a biometric sensor are additional perks that some individuals may enjoy.
The LCD provides ample information for selecting the desired settings, while Bluetooth lets you connect to the Therabody App for customized routines.
We understand that top-notch technology and high quality often come with a hefty price tag, which can make the decision difficult. However, we believe the investment is worth it for the benefits [1] you receive. To help you explore your options, we’ve also included some worthwhile alternatives to Theragun that might fit your needs.
Therabody Theragun has been the pioneer in the percussion therapy industry since 2016, and they continue to innovate and improve their Theraguns.
The Plus on the sixth generation of Theraguns means they are heated massagers that can also deliver actual vibrational therapy. Optionally, you can choose a cold treatment at home if you purchase the attachment. The Theragun Pro Plus is now miles away from the previous Pro 5th Gen.
One thing that hasn’t changed here is that Theraguns are expensive; however, if you can afford them, you won’t be disappointed —you will enjoy many of the new features. Let’s check it out!

Summary
Based on our personal experience, we found the Theragun Pro Plus to be truly innovative with its heat therapy, vibrational therapy, and its powerful yet elegant and effective design.
We saw noticeable improvements compared to the previous model, the Theragun Pro 5th generation, even though it no longer features an external battery or a rotational arm. It is still the most expensive massage gun among those we’ve tested. Given its price, it might not yet fully establish itself as the industry leader, but it certainly offers impressive features and quality.

Theragun Pro Plus Massage Gun: Unboxing, Build Quality, and First Impressions
The Therabody Theragun Pro Plus comes inside a black box that creates the perception of a luxurious item, which, in reality, it is.
Embedded within the lid of the box are a quick-start guide and a user manual. In addition, you will find six routine card guides for the different parts of the body, along with the corresponding Theragun head.
This Pro massage gun comes neatly packed in a new dual-compartment soft carry case. It’s better organized than the previous generation and fits all accessories with ease.

Theragun Pro Plus Gen 6: Build, Design & Ergonomics
Yes, this is considered the sixth-generation flagship. We know it is slightly heavier than the previous Pro 5th Generation, but because it is more compact, your wrist is closer to the center of gravity; therefore, it is easy to handle while having less strain on your wrist.
Because it is still a compact massage gun, it may be challenging to reach some back muscles in some cases. However, this is where other muscle massagers with longer handles can be beneficial.
The 6th Gen of this triangle massage gun looks more compact because, contrary to previous Gens, the percussive pin doesn’t exist and doesn’t poke out. Instead, on the 6th Gen, there is an internal socket on the massager’s arm.
Theragun PRO vs Pro Plus: the external pin on the 5th Gen has been removed.
As an athlete or gym-goer, you may find yourself using the Theragun Pro Plus immediately after exercising, and you really don’t want a slippery percussion massage gun.
That’s something Therabody Theragun has covered, as this premium massage gun is entirely rubberized, providing a secure grip even with sweaty hands.
Theragun PRO: ergonomic triangular massage gun.
The Theragun Pro Plus no longer features the rotational arm seen on the Pro 5th Gen. We believe this is not a drawback, as the triangular frame allows for convenient grasping when treating muscle pain and aligning the percussion head at the optimal angle to the muscle.
The Theragun Pro 5th generation with an adjustable arm.
In addition to the percussive arm, the Theragun Red Therapy LED radiates above the skin. Something we haven’t seen before is a biometric sensor built into the triangle grip. We will explore all these additions in more detail in the following sections.
Slightly smaller than its predecessor, the Theragun Pro Gen 5
Non-adjustable arm – more straightforward but less flexible
Refined LED touchscreen controls
Red Light Therapy
Upgraded Theragun Pro buttons – more tactile
A new biometric sensor has been built into the triangle massager
Note: According to Theragun’s website, the Theragun Pro Plus weighs 3.63 lbs (1650 g) without attachments. We weigh both the Theragun Pro Plus and the Theragun Prime Plus, and the correct weight is 2.36 lbs. (1,070 g).
Controls & Display
Below the display, the control buttons are located. They are more tactile due to an extruded rubber line in each direction (up, down, left, right).
The middle button is not bulged, as in the previous Pro version, but instead it is concave, allowing you to position your thumb accurately. They are better than the previous Theragun Pro buttons.
Additionally, Theragun features a refined OLED control panel that displays different colors when selecting a specific setting.
For example, a red flame icon and a red temperature bar are displayed when using the heat attachment, while a green icon is displayed when using the vibration attachment.
Biometric Sensor + Breathwork Session
Breathwork is the intentional practice of consciously inhaling and exhaling.
These exercises can positively impact us physically (e.g., enhancing oxygen exchange and lung capacity), mentally (e.g., reducing stress and anxiety), and emotionally (e.g., releasing stored emotions).
Note: The biometric sensor is located on the inner side of the triangle gun, where the index finger can be positioned.
This feature works in conjunction with built-in guided breathing routines to help users lower their heart rate and reduce stress. We observed a decrease from 76 beats per minute (bpm) to 53 bpm during a 2-minute session.
For some of us, this feature is worth having; for those who are not too interested in it, it could be another opportunity to set aside 2-3 minutes for your well-being.
Theragun Red Light – Therapy
Located beside the percussive arm, Near-infrared LED light therapy shines a couple of inches above the skin and can be turned on or off from the control panel.
Let’s be honest here: we have our doubts about its effectiveness because, despite red therapy being used in saunas, facemasks, etc., the time the LED spends over a muscle is limited.
According to users’ reviews, people like it, some use it twice a day, and claim:
“It has helped since I started using it; it added benefits…”
But helped with what exactly, or what was the improvement since?… It’s a little bit vague.
Theragun Pro Plus attachments: The variations
The 5th Gen Pro included six attachments, and in the case of the Theragun Pro Plus, the vibrating head replaced the SuperSoft attachment, which also includes a seventh attachment for heat therapy.
Theragun attachments: the PRO Plus includes 7.
The Therabody Theragun Pro Plus massage gun has attachments that differ from those of the previous generation, as its locking mechanism is entirely different. Previously, the percussive pin protruded from the Theragun’s arm, and the attachment had to be mounted on a square pin, similar to the one on a ratchet/dice tool.
The 6th Gen attachments are pushed in (since the percussion arm doesn’t protrude) and must be twisted until they lock. This change has also improved the aesthetics of this premium massage gun.
Additionally, the heat therapy, vibration, and cold attachments feature power contact points that match those inside the percussive arm, allowing them to be powered. Therefore, these attachments can’t be used with previous Gen’s Theraguns.
The attachments are still made from quality rubber, and on our list below, you will find out which ones are soft, more rigid, or heated:
NEW:
Theragun heated attachment
Perfect for warming up tissue. Additionally, the heated Theragun provides a soothing massage to the muscles during percussion therapy.
It warms up within a few seconds and has 3 different temperature settings. The Theragun heat can be switched off to use the head without heat.
The heated head reaches 131°F quickly and retains warmth even under pressure—perfect for muscle relaxation. These are the 3 temperature settings:
45°C, 50°C, 55°C / 113°F, 122°F, 131°F.
Theragun heated attachment and Theragun vibration attachment.
⚠️ The Theragun Pro Plus cold attachment is sold separately, but it is clearly promoted inside the case. Cold therapy offers targeted relief for inflammation. So, if you are keen, you can have a Theragun hot and cold, all within one device.
Note: The Theragun Pro Plus attachments fit perfectly on the Theragun Prime Plus but are not compatible with previous generations of Theragun, including the 4th and 5th.
Theragun vibration attachment
This one is also great for joints. Different from percussive therapy, this attachment is gentler and ideal for post-surgery users, arthritis sufferers, and areas like the neck or elbows.
Additionally, it allows users to switch between percussion therapy and vibrational modes, all within the same massage gun.
Standard Ball
This one can be used for a full-body massage, for small or large muscles.
Dampener
When we tested the dampener, the impact was softer; therefore, it is effective on bony, tender areas or on sore muscles (such as forearm sores).
Thumb
This one is ideal for trigger-point massage, such as on your feet or when a muscle node needs to be targeted.
Wedge
You may want to use it on the shoulders, IT bands, and as a muscle-scrapping tool. This is perfect for reducing neck tension, flushing, and scraping to increase blood flow for faster muscle recovery.
Micro-Point
With a soft silicone spiky surface, it intends to improve blood flow circulation. We saw a similar approach on their “Theragun for face“.
Theragun Pro Plus Performance
We evaluate the performance based on the massage gun’s amplitude (head percussion displacement), the no-stall force (the pressure required to stop the motor), how accurately the percussion range aligns with the specifications, and the noise produced by the muscle massager compared to the specifications.
It is worth mentioning that some subpar massage guns publish excellent specifications, but when measuring those performance aspects, their range was not as high as it was supposed to be, the actual stall force was a fraction of what they said, most commonly seen has been a false promised amplitude, and the noise levels, well, louder than on paper.
Theragun Amplitude
This describes how far the Theragun head moves back and forth to create percussions, determining the massage depth.
The Theragun is best for amplitude, and the Theragun Pro Plus maintains a 16mm amplitude, which remains the longest available.
Theragun has consistently provided the actual measurements for its percussion massagers, so it was no surprise to us that our measurements (as shown in our photo) aligned with the publicized information stating this is a 16mm amplitude massage gun.
We measured and confirmed that the Theragun Pro Plus is a 16 mm amplitude massage gun.
Theragun Force: Pro Plus no-stall force
Stall force is the pressure required to stop a device’s motor, causing it to stall. This aspect is crucial in massage guns, as having insufficient power for your application can be disappointing.
The Theragun Pro has always been their strongest massage gun on every iteration. We compared the stall force of our Theragun Pro 5th Gen against that of the Theragun Pro Plus, and it remained consistently powerful.
They can be stalled —don’t get me wrong —but the brutal force required to do so isn’t something you need to apply to your muscles to accelerate muscle recovery. On the contrary, doing so would cause you harm.
The Theragun Pro Plus remains the strongest Theragun, boasting a 60 lbs stall force.
This, combined with its 16 mm amplitude, enables the best deep-tissue massage due to its significant stall force. The other Theraguns are more gentle as they stall with less force.
One thing that Theabody Theragun removed on the 6th Gen is the Theragun Force Meter. These were horizontal bars on the OLED screen that appeared as more force was exerted.
In previous reviews, we mentioned that this was not a helpful feature, as the device’s percussions made it challenging to interpret the screen.
Theragun Pro 6th Generation doesn’t have a force indicator.
How does Theragun Pro Plus compare to other sports massagers?
Stall Force (lbs.)
Stall Force: Only the D6 Pro has a higher stall force, while the Ekrin Kestrel comes close to that of the Theragun Pro. The D6 Pro is advertised as 85 lbs.f, but we estimate 65 lbs.f in our review.
Stroke Length (mm)
Stroke Length: Theragun’s 16 mm is the best-in-business, and only the D6 Pro can match it. The Ekrin Kestrel may only have 13 mm, but it instead has plenty of stall force at all speeds, plus it revs to 3500 RPM, making it more intense.
Theragun RPM: Percussions and Speed Levels
Therabody Theragun has been consistent and accurate in this aspect. Their percussive therapy exists because of the 1750 percussion per minute (PPM) to 2400 PPM, spread within five speed settings.
We measured the lowest and highest percussion per minute, and there were no surprises; it was accurate according to the specifications.
Using the UP and DOWN buttons, you can select one of the preset speeds on this Theragun:
1750 RPM – first speed
1900 RPM – second
2100 RPM – third
2200 RPM – fourth
2400 RPM – fifth
Or, when you use the Therabody app, you can customize it even further.
Theragun Pro Plus: Min and max percussion range we measured.
Theragun Specs:
We greatly appreciate that Therabody remained true to their claims about the percussion range, particularly since some brands tend to exaggerate their specifications. It’s reassuring that we verified the accuracy of the Theragun Pro using a high-precision laser tachometer, and the results aligned perfectly with the promised specifications.
Theragun Pro noise: The quiet Plus
Our tests revealed that at the lowest speed and a distance of 12 in/30cm, the noise level was 42 dB, while at the highest speed setting, we recorded ~53 dB. These results are incredible, but to top it all off, the Theragun’s sound is now completely unobtrusive.
This is maybe the most surprising performance feature. In the past, Theraguns were known for their loudness. But that was not all; the sound was harsh as well.
The 6th Theragun generation has absolutely corrected this issue, and the noise level range we measured at the lowest and fastest speeds was the lowest ever, and comfortable. Well done, Theragun —this was one of the aspects that needed improvement. We found ourselves enjoying a quiet, soothing recovery massage, and we loved it.
The noise level of the Theragun PRO 5th Gen was measured at 66 and 71 dB. The Theragun 6th Gen is notably quieter, ranging from 42 to 53 dB.
QuietForce Solution: Maintenance purpose
Inside the small black box is a tiny container labeled “QuietForce solution.” It is a lubricant that reduces friction between the moving parts—the arm piston—thereby reducing noise. It is recommended to apply it every 6 months or more, depending on the usage.
Theragun Battery
Unlike the two previous Theragun Pro versions, Therabody opted to replace the detachable battery with an internal one.
The issue here is that if you stop using your Theragun and it is not stored correctly, and the battery deteriorates, you cannot simply replace the battery.
Old Theragun Pro 5th Gen
So, there is no Theragun battery replacement for this model.
The battery capacity remains the same at 2500 mAh, and it should last approximately 150 minutes. They clearly state that it can be shorter depending on whether you are using one of the attachments that requires power to operate (i.e., heat, vibration, or cool) or a standard Theragun head.
Recharging the Theragun Pro Plus has become simpler. In the past, Theraguns came with a bulky wall charger.
Like many other massage guns available today, they only include a USB-C cable that works with any charger you already have at home.
That’s not a bad thing, because it helps reduce the additional weight you don’t need to carry.
Suppose you prefer a more convenient way to charge your Theragun Pro Plus, such as an automatic charging option. In that case, you can purchase the Theragun Pro Battery Charger, a wireless charging stand explicitly designed for the Plus models.
Theragun Application
We truly appreciate the effort that went into creating the Therabody App. Its outstanding functionality and user-friendly design really stand out, making it a valuable resource for anyone using the Theragun Pro Plus.
The table above already gives you a good summary of the differences between Theragun Pro Plus vs Theragun Pro (5th Gen). Below, we expand it a little bit better:
What was removed on the Pro Plus model:
The adjustable arm (4 different positions).
The Theragun removable battery.
The Theragun SuperSoft attachment.
A wall charger.
Some weight was shaved.
From a 2-year to a 1-year warranty.
Added to the Pro Plus model:
Reduced noise level and nicer sound.
Heated Theragun thanks to its new attachment.
Theragun vibration attachment.
A more descriptive display.
A biometric sensor.
Theragun LED: Red light therapy included.
Additional breath work routines.
The Theragun screen is more informative on the 6th Gen than on the previous Theragun Pro 5th Generation.
Who Should Get the Theragun Pro Plus?
The Theragun Pro Plus is the most powerful model we’ve tested, favored by professionals such as therapists and chiropractors due to its robust features, long battery life, ergonomic triangle handle, and high power output. It’s also suitable for top athletes and bodybuilders who need a high stall force and long amplitude to achieve a deep tissue massage.
Even non-professionals can use it gently, starting at 1750 RPM with soft attachments or the vibrational head for a smooth massage. If cost is a concern, the quieter, less expensive Theragun Elite offers many of the same benefits.
Additionally, there are those like us —enthusiasts or gym-goers —who appreciate a high-performing, luxurious massage gun.
Now we are talking. There is a comparison between the two Theraguns of the same generation. So, what do they have in common?
Both have the 16mm amplitude massage gun, ideal for deep tissue massage. In both cases, Bluetooth connectivity is available, allowing you to use the device with the Theragun app on your phone.
The battery size remains the same, and it comes with a USB-C charging cable.
These two are the only ones that have heated therapy when using the included attachment. Heat therapy can be graduated across 3 different temperature settings.
So what’s different? Well, the Prime Plus is simpler than the Pro Plus. It doesn’t have an LCD, a biometric sensor, or red light therapy. It’s smaller, and the handle-frame is also thinner than the one on the Pro.
But does not all. It is lighter than the Pro Plus and, instead of 60 lbs., has a stall force 1/3 lower, at 40 lbs.f. The table below summarises both Theraguns:
*Note: Using the app gives you a customized range.
Should You Buy the Theragun Pro Plus?
If you just want a massage gun, the Theragun Pro Plus might be overkill.
However, if you’re looking for a fully integrated recovery tool with next-generation therapy features, including the option of hot or cold therapies, or a truly vibrational therapy when desired, then the Theragun Pro Plus Gen 6 stands out.
Theragun Pro Plus Alternatives
That said, there are not too many massage gun brands with high-amplitude massage guns, particularly with 16 mm amplitude.
However, given the elevated price tag of Theraguns, the Theragun alternatives we provide below are reliable massage guns we have repeatedly tested and can recommend.
Our first alternative is a more affordable option that retains the characteristics of a strong massager, featuring a 16mm amplitude massage gun. The stall force of the D6 Pro Plus exceeds that of the Theragun Pro, ensuring it won’t stop under high pressure on your skin.
When we used it for our Bob and Brad D6 Pro review, we found that the stall force was lower than the advertised value (about 65 lbs), making it harder to stall the motor than the Theragun Pro.
The PLUSincludes a heat therapy massage head, along with 6 standard but varied massage gun heads.
Unlike the Theragun Pro Plus G6, the D6 Pro Plus retains the rotational arm option, which is ideal for aligning the percussion head perpendicular to the targeted muscle.
The Bob and Brad D6 Pro feels bulkier than the Theragun counterpart. It has a larger handle frame that, for some petite individuals, may also be perceived as chunky.
When you grab the muscle massager at the far end of the frame, away from the percussive head, it will feel heavier (unless it is just hanging from your hand while massaging your calves).
With the D6 Pro, you won’t get a fancy LCD, Bluetooth, App, biometric sensor, Red therapy, or vibrational attachments. Therefore, it is more affordable, costing approximately one-third as much as the Theragun Pro Plus.
Theragun PRO vs Bob and Brad D6 Pro.
The speed range on the D6 Pro Plus is broader, from 1500 to 2500 PPM, while the Theragun’s range is 1750 to 2400 PPM.
For a 16mm amplitude massage gun, its noise levels are good and below those of the Theragun Pro 5th Gen.
The D6 Pro Plus is priced at $249.99. However, by applying the $60 Amazon coupon and our discount code MGAD6PRO3 during checkout, you can purchase it for less than $200 here.
This is one of our most popular options. It is less than half the price of the Therabody Pro Plus, with the 20% discount you find below, and Ekrin Athletics is one of the few companies that offer a lifetime warranty on its products.
What makes the Ekrin Kestrel a great option? This is a straightforward 13mm amplitude massage gun capable of delivering deep-tissue massage thanks to its high RPMs (or PPMs). With a top 3500 PPM, and a powerful 56 lbs of no-stall force, its intensity serves the same purpose as a muscle massager like the D6 Pro or the Theragun Pro.
It is lighter than the two Pro massage guns we are comparing to. With a 15-degree angled handle, a fully rubberized body, and an aluminum ring at the top, it offerssuperb ergonomics. The long handle also helps you reach those difficult-to-reach muscles on your back.
The operation is extremely simple: a mouse-button-like switch can be pressed to turn it on or off, and scrolling up or down adjusts the speed. Above the only button, six vertically aligned LEDs indicate the current speed level.
It comes with a variety of massage head attachments for targeting different muscles or treating sensitive areas, such as joints and bony areas.
The battery in Ekrin massage guns lasts longer than the competition (2–3 hours of use), which may result in a longer physical life, as the number of charge/discharge cycles is reduced.
The Ekrin Kestrel is one of our favorite massage guns. It has a sleek design and is a top performer!
The usual price is $349.99, but with our MGA20 coupon, you receive a 20% discount, bringing the price down to $279.99. Purchase yours at ekrinathletics.com.
The Theragun Pro Plus is Therabody’s most ambitious percussion massager. With multi-therapy functions (heat, cold, vibration), biometric tracking, and a solid highest stall force in the Theragun guns, it surpasses what a typical massage gun offers.
The noise is no longer an issue. It is lower in volume and less harsh than previous generations of the Theragun Pro. That’s something we really love about this Pro Plus.
The information displayed on the LCD is generous, and the menu navigation is easy and intuitive, thanks to better tactile buttons.
The Biometric sensor and the Red light therapy are two unique additions that some individuals may enjoy, helping to reduce stress levels. We still have doubts about the effect of red light therapy on a muscle treated for 2 minutes.
For such a top-notch massage gun, Theragun only offers a 1-year warranty, whereas you can get a lifetime warranty with products from Ekrin Athletics, which is a scarce option to come across in massage guns. If you have the money to pay for it, go for it. It won’t disappoint you.
The Bob and Brad D6 Pro PLUS is a very powerful muscle massager with the addition of an attachment that provides heat therapy for a faster recovery.
If you can afford the Theragun option, you won’t regret it at all! It is a very personalized massage gun with integrated routines and several features.
Alternatively, the other two options don’t have the latest technology, as seen in the Therabody Theragun, but they will still support your muscle recovery journey.

Summary
From our personal use, we found the Theragun Pro to be powerful, elegant, and effective. We noticed significant improvements in the Theragun Pro 5th generation model, even though it no longer has some of the accessories it used to (e.g., two batteries). It remains the most expensive massage gun compared to other sports massagers we’ve tested. Because of its price tag, we feel it still doesn’t authoritatively claim its position as the industry’s king.

Current version.
September 29, 2025: The latest version (with Theragun Pro Plus) was reviewed and fact-checked by Dr. Alex Stone, DPT/CSCS.
I’ve been struggling with lower back muscle tension for years, and the Theragun PRO Plus made a massive difference from the first week. The power and precision are incredible — it gets deep into tight spots without feeling harsh. It’s surprisingly lightweight and easy to handle, even for longer sessions, and the battery life is excellent — I can go several days without recharging.
The attachments that come with it are super useful. Each one targets a specific area perfectly, especially the wedge and dampener heads for sensitive spots. I also love the heat therapy and vibration features, which take the relaxation to another level.
Thanks to Mario’s detailed review on Massage Gun Advice, I felt confident choosing this model. His comparison helped me understand all the technical differences and make the right purchase. I’m really glad I trusted his recommendation — this was definitely the best investment for my recovery and daily wellbeing.
Hi Eddie,
Thank you for your comments. We are glad you found our Theragun Pro Plus review helpful and that it meets your muscle recovery needs.
