Our Take

The Theragun Prime Plus is a comfort-focused full-size massage gun that stands out for its heated attachment, refined feel, and noticeably quieter operation compared to older Theragun models. It is designed for people who want a premium recovery tool that is easier to live with day to day, not just powerful on paper.

Performance is strong for general recovery, with enough amplitude and stall force to handle calves, quads, shoulders, and back work. The percussion feels controlled rather than aggressive, and noise levels stay low enough for relaxed home use. The heated attachment adds real value by helping muscles loosen faster and making sessions feel more therapeutic instead of purely mechanical.

That said, this is not a Pro-level power machine. It does not deliver the same level of raw force or sustained pressure as models like the Theragun Pro or Pro Plus. Users who prioritise maximum deep-tissue intensity over comfort will be better served by those heavier, more aggressive options.

Overall, the Prime Plus is a strong choice for users who want a refined, quieter, and more comfortable Theragun with the added benefit of heat, without stepping into the bulk, noise, and intensity of the Pro tier.

Summary

Based on our personal experience, we found the Theragun Pro Plus to be truly innovative with its heat therapy, vibrational therapy, and its powerful yet elegant and effective design.

We saw noticeable improvements compared to the previous model, the Theragun Pro 5th generation, even though it no longer features an external battery or a rotational arm. It is still the most expensive massage gun among those we’ve tested. Given its price, it might not yet fully establish itself as the industry leader, but it certainly offers impressive features and quality.

Theragun Prime Plus Massage Gun: Unboxing and First Impressions

The Theragun Prime Plus makes a premium first impression straight out of the box. The packaging is clean and well organised, with everything laid out clearly rather than packed in tightly.

Inside, you get the Prime Plus massage gun,

  • A Theragun Prime Plus
  • A Theragun heated attachment
  • 3 additional attachments
  • USB-C charging cable
  • Travel pouch (carrying Theragun case)
  • Quiet Force Solution (oil/accessory care item)

It is a sensible, complete kit without unnecessary extras.

Overall, the unboxing experience matches the positioning of the Prime Plus. It feels refined, intentional, and designed for regular use rather than spectacle.

Build, Design & Ergonomics

Frame and Grip Design

The Prime Plus uses Therabody’s triangular frame, which remains one of the most comfortable designs for self-massage. Multiple grip options make it easier to reach awkward areas without straining the wrist or forearm.

Weight and Balance

In use, the Prime Plus feels well-balanced and easy to control. It is lighter and less fatiguing than Pro-level Theraguns, which makes longer sessions more comfortable.

Materials and Build Quality

Build quality feels solid and refined. The housing does not flex or rattle under pressure, and the grip coating stays secure even during sweaty sessions.

Controls & Display

Button Layout & Operation

The Prime Plus uses a simple two-button layout that is easy to operate one-handed. The buttons are positioned within natural thumb reach, making it easy to power the device on and adjust speed without shifting your grip.

Speed Indicators

LED indicators around the power button clearly show the selected speed level. The display is minimal but effective, giving you quick visual feedback without adding unnecessary clutter.

Heat Indicators

When using the heated attachment, dedicated LED lights indicate the active heat level. The system is intuitive and makes it easy to confirm settings at a glance during use.

Attachments

Included Attachments

The Prime Plus includes three standard attachments: the Standard Ball, Dampener, and Wedge, along with the Heated Percussive Plus head. This covers everyday recovery needs without overwhelming users with unnecessary extras.

Twist-to-Lock System

Therabody’s updated twist-to-lock system makes swapping attachments quick and secure. It feels more refined than older pin-style connectors and locks firmly in place during use.

Optional Plus Attachments (sold separately)

Pictured below are two additional attachment heads:

  • Vibration Plus attachment
  • Cold Plus attachment

Note: The Plus attachments are compatible only with the Theragun Prime Plus and the Theragun Pro Plus. They do not work with any other Theraguns.

Theragun Prime Plus Performance

Percussion Depth & Pressure

We measured the Prime Plus at a full 16 mm of amplitude, which places it firmly in the deep-tissue category for everyday recovery. In practice, this gives enough penetration for calves, quads, shoulders, and back work without forcing excessive pressure onto the motor.

Real-World Use

During testing, the Prime Plus maintained consistent percussion under moderate load without noticeable drop-off. The feel is controlled rather than punchy, which makes it easier to stay on a muscle longer without triggering discomfort or guarding.

Speed Range & Control

The five-speed range behaves predictably across settings, with no sudden jumps or unstable vibration. Lower speeds are genuinely usable for lighter work, while higher speeds retain control instead of becoming harsh or rattly under pressure.

Noise During Use

Noise levels measured between roughly 40 dB at low speeds and just over 50 dB at the top end. In real use, the sound profile stays smooth and low-frequency, which is noticeably less intrusive than older Theragun generations.

Battery & Charging

Battery Life in Use

In our testing, the Prime Plus consistently delivered multiple full recovery sessions on a single charge. Even with mixed speed use, the battery comfortably lasted several days of regular sessions before needing a top-up.

Impact of Heated Attachment

Using the heated attachment does increase power draw, as expected. Battery life drops more noticeably during longer heat-assisted sessions, but not to the point where it feels limiting for normal use.

Charging & Portability

The Prime Plus charges via USB-C, which makes it easy to top up using common chargers at home, in the gym, or while travelling. Charging was reliable and predictable, with no unusual heat buildup during testing.

Who Should Buy It?

The Prime Plus is a good fit if you want a Theragun that feels comfortable and controlled during regular use. It runs quieter and smoother than older models, which makes it easier to use frequently without fatigue.

It makes sense if heat therapy is part of your recovery routine. The heated attachment warms tissue quickly and adds a more relaxing, therapeutic feel during warm-ups or lighter recovery sessions.

This is also a solid option if you want real deep-tissue capability without stepping into the size, weight, and intensity of Pro-level Theraguns.

Who Should Skip It?

You should skip the Prime Plus if your priority is maximum pressure and aggressive deep-tissue work. It does not deliver the same raw force as Therabody’s Pro-tier models.

It may not be the best choice if you want the longest possible battery life at high speeds. While battery performance is reliable, heavier massage guns are better suited to extended, high-intensity sessions.

You may also want to look elsewhere if you do not care about heat therapy or premium refinement. Simpler massage guns can deliver similar basic performance at a lower price.

Final Verdict

The Theragun Prime Plus is a smart refinement of the classic Theragun experience. It does not try to compete with the Pro series on power, and that is exactly why it works so well.

In real-world use, the Prime Plus feels more controlled, more comfortable, and significantly easier to live with than heavier, louder Theraguns. The improved noise profile and heated attachment make it particularly appealing for home use, shared spaces, or users who massage regularly rather than occasionally.

If you want a premium Theragun that prioritises comfort, sound control, and everyday usability over brute force, the Prime Plus is one of the most sensible choices in Therabody’s current lineup.
