The Bob and Brad A7 Pro Massage Gun claims to combine portability with genuine heat and cold therapy, deep tissue massage, and durability, a combo not found in many mini massage guns. But how well does it actually perform?

In this detailed review, we’ll help you decide if it’s worth buying by testing all its features and comparing it to other options.

bob and brad a7, mini massage gun
Bob and Brad A7 Pro Massage Gun

Key Takeaways:

  • The massage gun heat attachment is not the only upgrade on this mini massage gun. This one provides enough heat to loosen tight muscles and cold therapy to calm inflammation. Most mini guns don’t offer this at all.
  • The stall force went up significantly (up to 40 lbs). This means it takes more pressure before the motor slows down, and that’s a win for users who want a stronger massage.
  • We confirmed it now has deeper percussion with its 11 mm amplitude (we measured 10.21mm though), which is more than the Bob and Brad Q2 mini (7mm) and most small guns.
  • The innovative arc-shaped massage gun attachment works like a palm, hugging arms, calves, and thighs in a better way than standard flat heads. And it has soft, cushy nodes that work on your skin rather than just hard plastic.
  • All the new massage gun attachments have a twist-and-lock mechanism, so they remain in place during your massage sessions at home.
  • The LED pressure feedback light lets you gauge how much pressure you’re applying. Others, like the Theragun Relief, never had anything close to this.
  • The Bob and Brad A7 has five speed settings. The slowest is 1600 RPM, followed by 2000 RPM, 2600 RPM, and 3000 RPM at its highest.
The fifth setting, auto mode, combines different speeds.
  • The silicone handle reduces hand buzz and makes longer sessions more comfortable.
  • It no longer uses proprietary cables; it now supports USB-C chargers. This is great because it can easily be charged with phone or laptop chargers (Use with 5V 2A).
  • The metal accent frame, plus the new build, feels more premium and sturdy when you hold it than the previous Bob and Brad mini massage gun.
  • The Bob and Brad A7 has a solid runtime, and the heated massage tool has its own battery, so it doesn’t drain the small massage gun.
  • Despite the added improvements, it remains compact and easy to pack, especially with the carrying case.

Bob and Brad Massager Gun

Bob and Brad have built themselves a strong reputation for combining physical therapy expertise with affordable products, and this has earned them the trust of millions of people all over the world.

When the Bob and Brad A7 Pro was announced, it became one of the most anticipated compact massage guns of 2025. Combine its ~11mm amplitude, 40 lbs of stall force, a new arc head, an LED pressure feedback ring, plus refined ergonomics, and it seems like a full-sized massage gun in a compact body.

They discontinued the Bob and Brad Air 2 Mini, which was their response to the Theragun mini, with a triangular solid shape, 12mm amplitude, and a medium-low 20 lbs stall force. Now, the innovative Bob and Brad A7 is a better option than the Theragun Relief, and has more force than their Mini Theragun.

We spent extensive time testing the Bob and Brad A7 mini to assess its performance and provide this detailed review and our final verdict. This review covers all you need to know about this massage gun with heat and cold therapy.

Let’s get right into it.

Summary

Based on our personal experience, we found the Theragun Pro Plus to be truly innovative with its heat therapy, vibrational therapy, and its powerful yet elegant and effective design.

We saw noticeable improvements compared to the previous model, the Theragun Pro 5th generation, even though it no longer features an external battery or a rotational arm. It is still the most expensive massage gun among those we’ve tested. Given its price, it might not yet fully establish itself as the industry leader, but it certainly offers impressive features and quality.

Bob and Brad A7 Pro Massage Gun: Unboxing, Build Quality, and First Impressions

Bob and Brad have consistently put effort into how they present their products, and the A7 Pro maintains that standard.

It comes in an ash colored travel case with their distinctive blue Bob and Brad logo. The case’s design is compact and well-organized, meeting their standards. It’s handy for people who travel or move around a lot.

This Bob and Brad mini massage gun itself feels more premium than previous Bob and Brad compact massagers, including the Q2 mini massage gun. The bold blue color stands out, and the silicone handle gives it a solid grip and a durable texture.

Now, what’s in the case?

The case contains:

  • Bob and Brad A7 Pro massage gun
  • 5 diverse attachments
    • One of them provides Hot and Cold therapy
  • USB-C charging cable
  • Travel case
  • Extra rubber sleeves
  • A user manual and guide for massaging muscles

Build Quality & Design Improvements

Compared to previous Bob and Brad mini models (especially the Bob and Brad Q2), the A7 Pro has several improvements.

Even compared to the cheapest Theragun option (the Theragun Relief), the Bob and Brad A7 is superior because it offers more useful attachments, hot and cold therapy, a longer amplitude, and a silicone handle, unlike the triangular frame made of only plastic we’ve seen on the Relief.

Let’s look at them.

Metal Accent Housing

bob and brad a7 mini massage gun

This is a great upgrade from the Q2 Mini’s plastic body. It gives the gun a premium feel and makes it more durable.

It also adds additional grip when grabbing and holding the mini massage gun from that area.

Note: you can click on the images to zoom in.

Improved Balance

The weight distribution reduces wrist strain, which is an issue with some compact devices, and we also noticed that the thermal head adds significant weight to the mini massager, making it heavy during long sessions.

Hot and Cold Therapy

Bob and Brad A7_massage gun hot and cold attachment-LED off

The hot and cold thermal head is a feature that has been expanded to most Bob and Brad massage guns.

In the mini massage gun category, it was first seen on the Bob and Brad Q2 PRO.

So what’s different here?
Well, this hot-and-cold massage gun attachment is the hottest we’ve seen, with a max temp of 122-140°F (50-60°C).

Better Materials

Bob and Brad A7_pressure indicator GREEN

The handle is now made of silicone and features grooves that prevent slipping and dampen vibration. It also means long usage sessions will be more comfortable.

Versatile Bob and Brad Massage Gun Attachments: What Are They For?

The Bob and Brad A7 Pro comes with 5 attachments, and we’ll dig deep into their functions based on our tests and the product description.

One significant improvement is that these attachments now use a twist-and-lock mechanism instead of the traditional push-in method.

Arc Head

This is one of the most unique attachments of the Bob and Brad A7 Pro. Its curved design fits naturally around arms, calves, thighs, biceps, and outer shoulders. This was created to mimic professional hand-massage techniques.

When we tested it on our sore calves, we appreciated that it has 4 soft-cushy silicone nodes, and it was not just another plastic head. But why?

The cushy nodes damp the initial contact with the muscle, letting you get used to it before you feel confident pressing harder. This was more crucial when treating shin splints. So, thumbs up for it!

Bob and Brad A7_massage gun attachment_arc-head-head

Ball Head

The ball head is soft and suitable for large muscle groups like the glutes and quads, and it helps with joint soreness.

Bob and Brad A7_massage gun attachment_ball-head

Air Cushion Head

This is ideal for massaging sensitive parts of the body or bony areas.

When it contacts the skin, it dampens the impact as it deforms.

Bob and Brad A7 massage gun attachment air cushion head

Cone Head

The cone head is designed for deep tissue massage, trigger points, and small muscle areas.

It is pointy, and at the top, the head is made of silicone rather than just plain hard plastic, which is a great thing.

Hot and Cold Therapy: What Makes It Special?

Most compact massage guns offer percussion, vibration, and similar attachments. The hot and cold therapy feature makes this small massage gun stand out.

We tested the heat and cold therapy attachment and found out what they actually work for [2]:

Hot and Cold Therapy: The Attachment

When you see the ‘PRO’ word on any Bob and Brad massage gun, it means it comes with hot and cold therapy. Initially, it was a titanium head you could put in warm water or ice before a massage.

Then it evolved into the hot-and-cold massage gun attachment we see today. This is the hero attachment, and it works for all body parts. The heat loosens muscles before activity, while the cold reduces inflammation and swelling after workouts.

Heat/Cold Therapy Indicators

The thermal head of the Bob and Brad A7 [3] has color-coded LEDs. The colors tell you the temperature range. We tested and observed that:

  • Light Blue indicates Cold (10°C/50°F drop)
  • Dark Blue indicates Colder (15°C/59°F drop)
  • Orange indicates Warm heat (40–50°C/104-122°F)
  • Red indicates Deep heat (50–60°C/122-140°F)
bob and brad a7- hot and cold therapy

Heat therapy 120-140°F (40-60°C)

This works for:

  • Tight muscles
  • Warm ups
  • Shoulder stiffness
  • Lower back tension
  • Menstrual cramps (without vibration)
  • Neck mobility

The warming effect improves blood flow and enhances the effectiveness of percussion therapy [1].

Cold therapy 104-122°F (10-15°C drop)

This is good for and can be used without vibrations:

  • Swelling reduction
  • Post-workout inflammation
  • Runners with sore calves
  • Pounding quads after leg day
  • Overuse injuries
  • Shin splints

Controls, Indicator Lights & User Interface

Bob and Brad did a thing with the A7 minimalist LED-based user interface, which is different from the more common digital screens. This design is easier to interpret, and it is the first time we have seen it on this massage gun brand.

The Bob and Brad C2 uses a similar LED force indicator, which is displayed on the back of the device.

Simple Multi-Function Power Button

The power button has three functions:

  • Power on/off
  • Speed selection
  • Mode switching

Initially, we thought that the button could’ve been placed in a better location. It looked as if it was on the way; it could have been accidentally pressed, and it was not so convenient to press with one hand while holding the device.

Actually, during testing, we found that the button sits south of your thumb when holding this small massage gun, which isn’t on the way, and it can be pressed easily by moving your thumb.

LED Speed Indicators

This mini massage gun doesn’t have a set of small LEDs to display the active speed (from 1 to 4).

It’s 1,600 revolutions per minute at the lowest, the second is 2,000 RPM, the third is 2600 RPM, and then the fourth/highest speed is 3,000 RPM.

The fifth mode is auto and gives variable speed. This setting sort of cycles up to the highest speed, retains it for a few seconds, and then ramps down to the lowest speed.

bob and brad a7- speed mode

LED Pressure Feedback Ring

This is one of the most useful features for first-time users in particular.

The ring lights up according to pressure levels. It’s yellow when on low pressure, orange at medium pressure, and red when the pressure is high. This is great for monitoring the pressure, especially in professional settings.

It trains you to apply the right amount of force and prevent overuse. Also, it helps you remember the next time you use it, the intensity you’ve been using.

The Bob and Brad A7 Pro Massage Gun Performance

Massage gun amplitude: ~11mm

Most mini massage guns stay in the 6-8mm range.

The A7 Pro’s 11mm amplitude would have stood out if it were not actually a 10mm amplitude massage gun. At 10.2mm, the device is more vibrational than percussive, as seen with an amplitude of 13mm or more.

Bob and Brad A7 massage gun measured amplitude

However, the low starting speed of 1600 RPM makes it feel less vibrational.

12mm is typically found on medium– or full-sized massage guns. This improved amplitude allows it to reach deeper and activate tight tissues.

The jump to 10mm amplitude is commendable for a good mini massage gun. This alone made a difference in deep tissue penetration.

Stall Force: Up to 40 lbs

Bob and Brad claim the stall force is up to 40 lbs, which is unusually strong for a compact massage gun. Our tests revealed that it’s easier to stall it at the lowest speed, but difficult at full speed (we estimate around 36-38 lbs).

However, there is an auto-pressure feature that senses when the force applied is high and can potentially stall the motor. To avoid stalling, its speed automatically increases to the next level and returns to its initial speed when the force is removed.

The Bob and Brad A7 Pro can maintain consistent pressure on larger muscle groups like the thighs, glutes, and back without cutting out too quickly. It’s also a great improvement from the older Bob and Brad Q2 Mini, which is ~32 lbs.

Speed Range: 1600-3000 RPM

The 5-speed system is well-balanced and can meet various needs, from light relaxation to deep muscle therapy.

The auto mode dynamically adjusts based on pressure, just like premium massage guns. But what does it mean?

When we were gently working a muscle, the RPMs remained constant until we applied more pressure. In that moment, the RPM automatically increased to add intensity to the massage and prevent the motor from stalling.

Noise Level of The Bob and Brad A7 Pro

When it comes to noise, the Bob and Brad A7 Pro is in the middle ground for mini massage guns. It’s not the quietest mini massage gun on the market, particularly at high speed.

During our tests, it hovered around 36 and 58 dB at different speeds, which is slightly above the Bob and Brad Q2 Mini and quieter than the Theragun Mini 2.0.

Budget minis like the KiCA 3 have lower noise levels, and the Ekrin Bantam is about on par with the Bob and Brad A7 at lower speeds.

Battery Life

The Bob and Brad A7 Pro uses a 2550 mAh battery and takes about 4.5 hours to charge. We think the charging time is quite long.

Batteries don’t like to be drained completely, and it’s not good for them either. That’s why when the battery indicator turned flashing red (15% – 20%), we plugged it into a 5V_2A charger. In ~2 hours, it was fully charged.

During our tests, we found out it lasts an average of 2-3 hours, depending on speed and pressure.

Bob and Brad A7_USB-c port

The hot and cold therapy attachment uses its own internal battery and lasts for about 60 minutes, but takes 2 hours to charge.

Others like Ekrin Bantam and KiCA 3 both last longer. Still, for daily sessions of 10-15 minutes, most users won’t need to charge the Bob and Brad A7 Pro often, and USB-C charging makes it more convenient.

Bob and Brad A7 massage gun hot and cold attachment

Pricing & 2-Year Warranty

The Bob and Brad A7 sells at $99.99 (with $20 coupon) and $119 without it. You can get some full-size devices at a similar price that have similar specs, but they won’t be easy to carry around.

So if portability is essential to you, the Bob and Brad A7 Pro is a good choice. It offers value and still remains in the price range of other mini massage guns that lack hot and cold therapy.

If you are a frequent flyer and like to bring a mini massage gun on a plane [4], a more compact option for your carry-on could be your preference. The Q2 Pro mini with hot and cold therapy is tiny and lighter but has a 7mm amplitude.

The Ekrin Bantam would be another choice for those who prefer a 9mm amplitude and still light.

Who Should Buy the Bob and Brad A7 Pro?

The A7 Pro is a great fit for people who deal with gym soreness, tight muscles from sitting at a desk, or general body tension. The A7 Pro gives you a balance of strength, portability, and extra features like heat and cold therapy that make recovery faster.

It’s a great choice for travelers, runners, and cyclists, especially those who aren’t experienced with complex massage guns. We confirm that the A7 Pro is easy to use and functional.

Best Alternatives to the Bob and Brad A7 Pro Massage Gun

There are a few options to consider if you can’t afford the A7 Pro or if you simply want something slightly different. Let’s look at some alternatives:

Ekrin Bantam (read our review) is one of the best true mini massage guns on the market, and it’s a great alternative if you prefer raw power and don’t necessarily need heat and cold therapy. It has ~9mm amplitude and up to 38 lbs stall force, which is high for its compact size.

It’s lightweight, sturdy, and ergonomically shaped with Ekrin’s signature angled handle that helps reduce wrist strain during longer sessions.

The Bantam lacks temperature therapy and LED pressure feedback, but it makes up for it with excellent battery life and consistent performance even under heavy pressure. It’s our top recommendation.

Therabody Theragun Mini 2.0, 1-Year warranty

Theragun Mini Gen 2: In Hand

The Theragun Mini 2.0 (check the review) is great for users who want premium brand reliability and a unique massage feel. It has a triangular design and 12mm amplitude.

It’s smaller and lighter than previous Theragun minis and offers one of the deepest strokes in the compact massage gun category.

The Theragun Mini also has Bluetooth and connects to the Therabody app for guided routines and personalized recovery recommendations. This is a big advantage for users who want structured programs.

It doesn’t include heat or cold therapy, and the stall force isn’t as strong as the Bob and Brad A7 Pro under heavy pressure, but it’s effective regardless.

The Gen 3 is now even lighter than the previous Gen, weighing 0.4 kg (0.88 lbs). Still, it comes at a premium tag price but with less battery time (150 minutes) than the Ekrin or the KiCA 3.

KiCA 3 Mini – dual massage gun, 1-Year warranty

The KiCA 3 (review) is another excellent alternative for users who would prefer a deeper massage stroke in a small massage gun. Its 10mm amplitude is similar to the Bob and Brad A7, and it’s designed for athletes who want more punch than most mini massage guns deliver.

Its stall force is superior and more difficult to stall than the A7 Pro, and it’s reliable for routine muscle maintenance.

It is one of the few massage guns that has an aluminum body, which looks and feels nice.

It has a dual massage head that delivers twice as many hits to a muscle area. It comes with silicone heads for different applications.

But that’s not all… its speed range is unbelievable: it starts at 50 RPM and maxes out at 2600 RPM, and because it’s a double head, it hits twice on every revolution, meaning, 100 to 5200 percussions per minute (PPM).

The Q2 Mini Pro (here is the review) is Bob and Brad’s earlier compact massage gun model, and a good alternative if you want the most lightweight option.

It’s a small massage gun designed for quick relief rather than deep sessions.

It has a 7mm amplitude and moderate stall force, so it’s less powerful than the A7 Pro but much quieter and super easy to carry.

The Q2 Mini Pro does have hot and cold therapy, but without LED feedback or advanced ergonomics, it’s efficient and cheaper.

Final Verdict

The Bob and Brad A7 Pro is one of the most impressive compact massage guns we’ve reviewed in the last few years. We love the hot and cold therapy option, the high stall force, new useful attachments, and USB-C charging.

It seems the increase in the no-stall force resulted from the implementation of a different motor, which is slightly louder than those in previous Bob and Brad massage gun models. For instance, the X6 Pro Max or the C2 Pro models are quieter while still being full-sized massage guns.

Nevertheless, the inclusion of a ring LED on the base of the handle, a dynamic massage mode, a well-thought-out, comfortable arc attachment, and the hot-and-cold massage gun attachment make it one of its kind and a good buy.

FAQ

Is the Bob and Brad A7 Pro good for deep tissue massage?
Not exactly.
Despite the strong stall force, it lacks some amplitude. The ~10mm amplitude makes it more of a vibrational than percussive massage gun.
To reach deeper layers of muscle, you will require any of these options:

The last two options are available with or without hot and cold therapy.

Does it really get hot and cold?
Yes, and almost instantly.
Heat reaches 122-140°F (50-60°C), which is warmer than what we have seen with other Bob and Brad massage guns. The cold drops 50-59°F (10-15°C) depending on the setting.

How many massage gun attachments does the Bob and Brad A7 come with?
Five standard attachments, including a hot & cold therapy head.

Can I travel with it?
Absolutely.
Nevertheless, you saw our photo comparing four mini massage guns. This one is not as compact as other options for taking on a plane, but if you pack only the mini massage gun and 1 or 2 massage gun heads without the carrying case, you will be fine.
